Getting around
Once on the island, getting around is relatively easy with various options for transportation. Barbados has one of the widest road networks in the world and transport is available to all parts of the island.
Public transportation
Public transportation is very economical. The island is known for its patriotic blue and yellow buses, the national colours of the island. The bus service runs regularly and travels all over the island. Bus fare is regulated by the government and is currently $1.50 (BBD) [$0.75US] one way to any part of the island.
There are two major bus terminals in the city of Bridgetown. The Fairchild Street Bus Terminal operates buses travelling to the south of the island while those buses in the Cheapside Bus Terminal cater to those travelling to the northern end of the island. The use of the local buses is the cheapest tour that you can imagine. Simply hop on board and ask the friendly bus driver.
ZR vans and mini-buses are public but privately owned vehicles offering bus fare also at $1.50BBD. The vans are frequent. They are identified by the white van with maroon. The mini-buses are yellow with blue stripes. Taxi cabs are private and may be a bit costly. However if you want the privacy, it is recommended. Their licence plate begins with Z. The cost is $20US per hour.
