
Just bajan
Here is an insight to some of what is bajan. You will have to visit to find out the rest. The island’s national dish is Cou cou and flying fish Another popular dish is macaroni pie, rice and peas and we are one of the few countries that use gravy on the rice. Other popular local dishes include: pudding and souse,fish cakes and bakes. Try them with a good glass of bajan mauby.
Our flower
The pride of Barbados is the island's national flower. The fiery red and yellow-sunset colour appears on the island's Coat of Arms.
The music
In Barbados, the local music is known as Calypso. Some of the local artists include Krosfyah and Rupee. Singing of calypso is very popular around Crop Over time.
The festival
The first Monday of August is Kadooment whereby the Crop Over seasons ends with this carnival. It originates from the stadium to Spring Garden. Locals are found all along the route enjoying the street party.
National sport
Cricket is the national sport of Barbados and the West Indies. Thousands of Barbadians, other West Indians and visitors flock to world-class matches at Kensington Oval.Most recently the Cricket World Cup 2007 Finals was held at Kensington Oval. Unfortunately, the West Indies didn't win but they fought the tough battle. Whether at the Ovaln exciting local First Division match, or a friendly game on the beach, an open pasture or village field, prepare to cheer as the batsman hits it for six.

National events
Horse racing is a prestigious event bringing together top class horses from Barbados, regionally and Internationally. In March during the Gold Cup Race at the Garrison Savannah you can bet on a fun day out, for both locals and visitors. Its atmosphere is for those who prefer the formality of the grandstand or the informality and relaxing atmosphere of out on the course, where you can picnic, place a bet, have a beer, drink a rum or just enjoy some coconut water with the traditional delicacies.
